Sunday’s Event
11:00 Service – Baptism of Madyson Caroline Barnard and Recognition of Public Baptism of Cayden Barnard, children of Jason Barnard and Candice Wright.

A Message from Pastor Galen Knutson
Jesus promises, "I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you." - John 14:18. This Sunday we hear of our Risen Lord's love for us. Love changes people. Love overcomes those things that separate us from each other. Love brings us to life. When we love another person it is not a burden to sacrifice for them. God so love the world and it cost the life of God's son, Jesus. God loves us enough to suffer and die for us. That's the kind of love we are called to - costly love. In 1 John 3:17 we read, "How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?" This week we are reminded again that God needs us to love, in the name of Jesus, those who have suffered great loss during the tornado that ripped through Joplin, Missouri. It is our privilege to give sacrificially as we participate in God's redemptive love for our world.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study
Pastor Galen is leading a Bible Study on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am in the 2nd floor conference room. This study will continue throughout the summer, every Wednesday. We hope that you will plan to join us.

We begin our time together with a thematic Bible study of Sabbath, and how Jesus’ ministry was for the redemption of all God’s children and creation. The study will lead us to Jesus’ inaugural sermon at Nazareth (Luke 4:14-21), and then to the way Jesus carried out his purpose. We will ask the important question for the church, and in particular this congregation: How do we carry on Jesus’ redemptive purpose in our own time and place?

Our primary translation will be the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), but feel free to bring your own Bible.

From The Youth Director
In our gospel lesson, Jesus promised to his disciples that he wouldn’t leave them alone forever. Still his disciples were getting afraid. They weren’t sure they would know what to do or what to say. So Jesus promised them an Advocate (the Holy Spirit) will be with God’s people forever to help us find the truth and live out the truth. So as we are moving to Pentecost, where do you find this Advocate in your life?

I also invite you to see our tables set up in the narthex to see what happened in this year’s Synod Assembly at Galveston as the theme was “Growing Up: Multigenerational Ministry.” Tables will have our resolutions we voted on, information about the synod’s new youth and family plan, and other goodies!
God Bless,
Ben Remmert

The following family will be welcomed into the family of Peace Lutheran Church on Sunday: Darrel & Clara Monroe, Caleb, Rose and Bethany (Transferred from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Houston.)

11:00 Service - Sr. High Milestone- Rated R
At 17, youth are becoming ready for the responsibilities associated with becoming an adult. They are learning about colleges, scholarships, work, the world, and where their place is in the world. So where does the church fit in? So today we took time with our 17-18 year olds to talk about the world outside of high school and how they can become Christian leaders in the world. Here are the youth that are celebrating this milestone: Casey Buskirk, John Craft III, Jeremy Dockan, Chris Goehring, Victoria Jacob, Matt McDonald, Zach Southard, and Brett Thornton.

A Message from Pastor Galen
This Sunday, the Gospel is John 14:1-14, where Jesus says, "In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" I have been saying that we are an Easter Church. An Easter Church is a spiritual house where our Risen Lord has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us. Our Second Reading will be 1 Peter 2:4-10, where the Apostle says to us, "Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God's sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house...." Our message for this Sunday draws us together to be that "spiritual house." Hymn writer, Marty Haugen, wrote a hymn text that captures this message: "Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place." Come to the place prepared for us by our Risen Lord, who shows us the way to the Father.

From The Youth Director
In Sunday’s Gospel message brings to mind the words of the Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. He told Alice that if she didn’t know where she was going, it didn’t’ matter which way she went. Jesus wants us to understand where we are going. The promise Christ makes to us is not just of new life after death, but a rich, satisfying life with Jesus now. This should bring us comfort in the difficult times during our lives and ministry. But our life can take us through some difficult territory with many obstacles and distractions. That’s why Jesus calls us to focus on him so we can make it through these challenges. So how do you center your life on Christ?
God Bless,
Ben Remmert

A Message from Pastor Galen
This Sunday, May 15th, is called "Good Shepherd Sunday." Our gospel story is from the 10th chapter of John. Jesus says, "I am the good shepherd." The good shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out to pasture. The good shepherd protects his sheep and will not run away in times of danger. On Sunday we will explore our relationship to our Risen Lord. We will uplift the "good shepherding" character of Christians and of the church. Who are those among us who lead us, and guide us, and protect us? We give thanks, especially for parents who are "good shepherds" for their children. For your personal devotions in preparation for Sunday, read Psalm 23.

New Member Orientation
If you have been visiting Peace Lutheran and are interested in becoming a member, you are invited to attend a New Member Orientation led by Pastor Galen on Monday, May 9th at 7:00 pm, and led by Ben Remmert on Sunday, May 15th at 9:45 am in the Fellowship Hall. At this orientation you will have the opportunity to learn about who we are, what we do and what we are asking you to do with us here at Peace Lutheran. Then on Sunday, May 15th at the 11:00 am service we will receive new members. Please call Judy Griffin in the church office (281) 487-1635, or e-mail her at jgriffin@welcometopeace.com if you will be attending the orientations.

Congregational Meeting: May 15
Please mark your calendars and make a special effort to attend an important congregational meeting on Sunday immediately following the 11:00 worship service. Election of 2012 Council officers will be held at this meeting.

School is almost out… Finals are done for our college students. Our seniors are counting the days until graduation. And our youth are completing TAKS. For some of our youth and families, this is a time of celebration. For others, this is a time of grief as there are regrets that our youth and families may have had over the years. Whatever the case, this is a time to reflect from the year, what were your highs? What were your lows? But more importantly, take this time to reflect on how God has worked through your life and how God has shown God’s self to you.

God Bless,
Ben Remmert
