This Sundays Events
This Sunday we will be hearing the story about Jesus lamenting over Jerusalem. In this story we see this wonderful comparison between Jesus and Herod. Herod is the fox and Jesus is the hen. The title of my sermon is "Foxes vs Hens", and I will be preaching about the Gospel as this news about God gathering us in the shelter of Grace and a grace filled community. I hope you enjoy it.

Reminder we have two services during our remodeling of the sanctuary.
Due to remodeling the sanctuary and the logistical issues with worshiping in the Fellowship Hall, we will be having only the 8:30 and 11:00 service with Sunday School at its regular time. After the remodeling, we will resume our three service routine. The remodeling should be complete the middle part of March. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The remodeling is going well. Painting is happening and the electrical fixes are starting. All is very exciting.

Lenten Services and Soup Suppers
My preaching themes will center on the Epistle readings from Sunday morning. These texts have wonderful images and messages to help us in our journey to Easter. I hope you will enjoy them. Casey did an excellent sermon this past Wednesday.

My preaching text is Philippians 3:17—4:1. We have a great image of citizenship and standing firm in the Lord

We will have noon Soup at 11:45 am and a midday service at 12:30 pm.

We will also have Lenten Soup suppers at 6:00 pm with a prayer service following at 7:00 pm.

Playground Update
We are waiting for the plastic to arrive before we can finish the project. It has been ordered and will arrive soon.

Youth Transition Team
We have a candidate to recommend to the council at their March 6 workshop.

Pasadena Faith in Action, March 27, 7:30am at IBEW at 4345 Allen Genoa,
We continue to encourage you to sign up for a united effort by churches in Pasadena area to serve our community with minor repairs, light construction, painting, clean-up, yard work, and basic landscaping.

You can register at Peace by filling in a form or going online at http://www.pasadenafaithinaction.com and download the form and send it to our church office.

The cost is $10 and will include a lunch and t-shirt. The work should be completed in the afternoon. We are encouraging families to serve together. Youth can also serve, but they will need an adult sponsor.

Also, if you know any home owner in need of any of the above work around their home, please contact the church office for an application.

Habitat for Humanity Service Opportunity
Habitat for Humanity Pasadena is building a house in Pasadena on Ann Street. Thrivent for Lutherans and Churches in the Pasadena area are supplying volunteer labor and funds to build the house. Peace Lutheran Church is part of that effort. We are currently soliciting volunteers to participate in the build. We are also beginning a fund raising effort. Our goal is to raise $1000 by the end of February. The other participant churches are also raising funds.

There is a sign up sheet in the narthex for volunteers. If you have not signed up you may continue to do so. Your time commitment is for whatever you can manage. We will keep you posted about volunteer work times as we get closer to the build date.

You can participate in the fund raising by purchasing a virtual board of siding or box of siding nails. A board of siding costs a $10.00 donation and a box of nails costs a $5.00 donation. You will receive a certificate documenting your donation and we will post a “board” or “box” with your name on the bulletin board as we track progress toward our goal (you may remain anonymous if you wish). We only have 2 weeks to meet this goal so we need your prompt attention to this appeal. I will be in the narthex to collect donations. Ted Brenneman – Peace Habitat Champion.

Pastoral Care Notes
Congratulations to Bryan & Lindsay Lina on the birth of their son, Caden Andrew, on February 18th. Grandparents are Tom & Caren Lina.

Our sympathy to all the family and friends of Leo Brown who passed from death to life this week. His services were this past Wednesday. We extend our love to his family. (As of this email, I am going to begin to cut and paste obituaries if they are available online.)

LEO BROWN, age 83, of Pasadena, Texas, lost his brief battle with cancer and died in his home on February 20, 2010. He was born in Huffsmith, TX on March 21, 1926 and was a life-long resident of Pasadena. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-five years, Eva; his daughter Sylvia Matthys and husband Charles of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Belinda Dockan and husband Steve of Pasadena, Texas, and son Alan Brown and wife Nancy of Deer Park, Texas; sister Willie Mae Barnhart of Red Rock, Texas, six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Leo was a World War II Marine Veteran who received the Purple Heart. He enjoyed many hobbies but most of all gardening in his backyard. He had a "green-thumb" like no other nurturing a wide variety if vegetables and flowers including his bluebonnets in the spring. Leo loved to harvest his pecans, and shell them while listening to the music of Gene Autry. He and his wife Eva attended Kruse Elementary, Jackson Jr. High and graduated from Pasadena High School in the class of 1943. Leo was the epitome of "The Greatest Generation" and like the words of Will Rogers: Leo "never met a man he didn't like!" We are grateful for his full and rewarding life and his family will cherish many wonderful memories. Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 24th from 2:00 to 3:00 at Forest Park Cemetery Chapel, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas. Service will follow beginning at 3:00 at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Peace Lutheran or Zion Lutheran Churches of Pasadena, Texas.

Jason Elliott continues his treatment for cancer.
Vickie Hildebrand has completed her treatment for cancer and is rejoicing.

Music Observance During Lent
Ash Wednesday, February 17th, began our Lenten journey that leads us to the joyful resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday. Music during Lent focuses on Jesus’ sacrifice and suffering for our sins, and is more somber. We also omit some music during Lent because of its somber and reflective nature. We will not sing “Alleluia” in worship until Easter. Also, this Lent we will not have pre-service and post-service music. We invite you to use the time before worship for prayer and meditation.

Senior Citizen’s Day Cancelled
Senior Citizen’s Day, scheduled for Wednesday, is cancelled for this month. Join us at 11:45 am for our midweek Lenten soup lunch followed by our worship service.

Blood Pressure Screening on Sunday
On the third Sunday of each month the Parish Nurses offer free blood pressure screening. They will be available on Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Library. This is for all ages – children, too!

50+ Bus Trip for March
On March 30th, we're going to Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, a tranquil sanctuary with over 300 types of plants and a wide variety of wildlife. It offers a retreat from the routines of daily life; something for everyone, offering you an amazing experience you'll never forget. We'll leave Peace parking lot at 8:00 am for Orange, Texas. Cost of Shangri La is $8.00 and the bus is $3.00. Call Virginia Rodriguez, (281) 487-4961 or Judy Speck, (281) 470-0407 if you want to join us on this trip.

PCM Food Ministry
Souper Bowl food donations collected here at Peace was very successful. We collected over 25 bags of food and it was delivered on Tuesday and they said to thank everyone who contributed.

On the First Sunday of each month, we hold a Food Drive for PCM. Any staple foods are welcome but for the next 2 months we are putting a BIG PUSH to collect jelly and cereal. The Creative Hands want to challenge each and every member of Peace to donate a jar of jelly and cereal (store brands are fine). PCM gives out over 100 jars of jelly a week. We hope to collect 100 jars during the month of March.

Lost And Found
There are two baskets filled with miscellaneous items that have been found around the church in the past year. You’re welcome to come by the church office to look through this basket for your belongings. If no one has claimed these items by the end of February they will be donated to a local resale shop.

LWR Fair Trade Coffee Project
The midweek Bible Study group is a “partner” in the coffee business and sells coffee, tea and hot cocoa mix through the Lutheran World Relief Fair Trade Coffee Project. Micah 6:8 calls us, as Christians, to do justice, love, mercy and walk humbly. The LWR Coffee Project helps Lutherans answer that call by righting the injustices faced by small-scale farmers around the world. By using Fair Trade coffee and other products in our congregation and homes, we are helping farmers receive a fair price that covers their cost of production and guarantees them a living wage for their labors. Look for the table in the narthex on Sunday.

The title of my sermon is "Call of the Wild" and we will be exploring together what it means to answer Jesus call to follow him and "fish for people"  I hope you enjoy it.

2 Services Beginning February 7.
Due to remodeling the sanctuary and the logistical issues with worshiping in the Fellowship Hall, we will be having only the 8:30 and 11:00 service with Sunday School at its regular time. After the remodeling, we will resume our three service routine.  The remodeling should be complete the first part of March.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Playground Update
We are meeting with the contractor to resolve the construction issues.

Youth Transition Team

We have 2 face-to-face interviews arranged.  Both will be attending Sunday morning services to meet the congregation and give you opportunity to talk to them. They will also be leading a combined confirmation and high school Sunday School Class during the Sunday School hour.
