This Sundays Events

Sunday's Sermon
This Sunday we hear Jesus tell us that the Christian life is not a walk through the park. We will experience hardship for what we believe, yet not one hair on our head will perish and by our endurance we will gain our souls. What is at stake in our suffering are our souls. We fight not to overcome all suffering, which is an impossibility, but to stay true to our faith and our identity as children of God. The gaining of our souls is being true to who we are. I hope you will enjoy the sermon.

This Sunday we will have a bake potato fundraiser to raise money for the labyrinth and we will also be selling Fair Trade coffee and tea.

Other News..................

On Wednesday, November 17, we will be joining with other Christians from around Pasadena for our 2nd annual Community Thanksgiving and communion service and pot luck. The meal starts at 5:45 pm and the service starts at 7:00 pm. This was a huge success last year.

We will have the service at First United Methodist Pasadena on Fairmont (copper top church). Bring your favorite dish or dessert. I will be helping with the presiding at communion. Pastor Jim Freitag from Parkgate Church will be preaching.

From The Youth Director
I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to give the sermon last week. However, I do not want you to forget the question I proposed in the sermon, are you ready for Sainthood? We all know of our own saints in our lives that inspire us, but never forget that you are saints. Never forget that it is through your Baptism, you are given a clean heart and through communion we are fed when we are hungry, and through our community we are uplifted in the message of Jesus Christ, so take this message to the streets and tell your neighbor about the promises and blessings that Christ has given us.

God Bless,

From The Youth Director
A huge thank you to our volunteers and our confirmation students for the success of our Reformation Day Celebration! Our celebration was a huge success, and I could not be happier with the service that our confirmation students and volunteers did for our youth and families here at Peace. Thank you. We are going to leave up the 95 Theses on the doors of the church and the Martin Luther Timeline (for a few weeks) so that we can all remember our proud Lutheran heritage.

This Sunday is All Saints Sunday, and there is so much that I can say about this day, but I am giving our sermon so I will not go into detail. However, I want this week for us to take some time to remember our loved ones who lived their Baptismal calling. Happy All Saints Day!

Remember that our Young Adults Chillin events are being held on Wednesdays from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, and our Senior High Youth Group meets on Sundays from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm. Mark your calendars. We are going to try and see if this helps with schedules for our youth. If you have any questions you can contact me.

God Bless,

Loss Is Part of Being Alive: A New Class On Grief Recognition and Response
This new class, led by Carole Martin, begins on November 7th during the Sunday School hour in classroom 201 upstairs.

Loss and grief are a universal experience and bad things do happen to good people of all ages. Death is not the only loss that causes us to grieve. Many problems in our lives stem from grief unresolved and unhealed. When we do not recognize and work through our grief we lose an opportunity to heal our soul and heart, and to be a help to others who walk these paths. Areas that will be covered are:

• Bible’s response to grief and loss
• Ways Religion helps
• Ways Religion hurts
• Faces of grief
• Recognizing different types of grief
• Stages of grief
• What to say and what not to say when a person is grieving
• Healthy and unhealthy grief
• What can hinder recovery
• Satan is an opportunist
• The transition process
• Four key facts about grief
• How to handle holidays and special occasions
• Paths to healing
• Growing through loss

Food and Clothing Drive For PCM Today
On the first Sunday of the month we have our collection of non-perishable food and clothing for Pasadena Community Ministries. The weather is turning cooler and time to think of warmer foods (hot cereals, soups, stew, etc.). We would like to also put a push on for Holiday foods, things that can be put in a Holiday Basket, such as veggies, canned fruits, etc. We will take these items for their Christmas baskets. Please put your items for the PCM in or on the cabinet in the hallway between narthex and fellowship hall. Monetary donations are also very much appreciated. Please make your check out to Peace Lutheran Church and in the memo section write “PCM”.

PCM Clothing: The center is in the change over mode from spring and summer clothing to winter. If you have spring and summer clothing please hold at this time, winter things and shoes are greatly appreciated.

Holiday Undies: We will be collecting new undies for all ages. Socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. These need to be new. We will deliver these the second week of December in time for the holidays. We will have a specially marked container under the large table in the narthex.

Thank you
Jany

Creative Hands Ministry
We met and got our ornaments ready for the Christmas tree that we will have on display at Pasadena City Hall for the holidays. We will decorate the tree at Pasadena City Hall on November 15th. All trees will be available for viewing on Nov 16 through December, week days till 6:00 pm.

Creative Hands will meet on Monday night, November 15th, 6:30 pm to get cards ready for the holidays. We also need to discuss projects and classes for next year. All plans and ideas are welcome for discussion. We also need to start on our packages for the 60 kids at the Krause Center.

We are still collecting for the Krause Center Girls and Boys: single decks of cards, small stuff toys. travel toiletries, fun socks for girls ( ladies sizes please) and low cut socks for the boys ( men's sizes), and chap sticks. Many of the teens are troubled kids and the items are limited that these kids can have for their safety and that of others. We will do 30 girls gifts and 30 boys gifts. We plan to mail these in time for Christmas along with their "Treat Cards". The kids look forward to the holiday cards with a small treat enclosed. Jany and Sherri
